Portrait of Rachel Beck

This month, our “get to know” series once again moves beyond the walls of IPL’s offices as we introduce you to one of our partners.  This month, we sat down and talked to Rachel Beck, Chief Financial Officer at Finch Investment Group, LLC ("FIG").

Read on to learn more about Rachel and FIG, how she came to her current position, what she wishes more people knew about PPLI and, of course, what she’s watching on TV these days.

Tell us a little about what FIG Advisors does?

FIG is a national leader in acquiring, servicing, and collecting tax liens.  After reading that, you may wonder what a tax lien is. If you own a home, you are familiar with paying property taxes. If those property taxes go unpaid, the municipality will issue a tax lien on the property and then sell that lien to a third party. This allows municipalities to meet their collection needs, giving them the funds needed to pay for services such as police officers, firefighters, schools, etc.

Since launching in 2013, FIG has collectively purchased, managed, and self-serviced more than $2.1 billion in delinquent property tax liens across 17 states and in more than 650 separate taxing jurisdictions. In 2024, FIG launched the first-ever insurance dedicated fund solely to invest in tax liens.

FIG's leadership team comprises dedicated professionals with over 70 years of experience in property tax liens and real estate investment. They have particular depth in technology, operations, and accounting. By focusing on technology and innovation, FIG has achieved tremendous operational efficiencies and economies of scale across the entire lien life cycle.

How does FIG Advisors work with a private placement carrier like IPL?

Private placement carriers like IPL help FIG's clients access the insurance products that can be used to invest in the insurance dedicated fund. At FIG, we know what we are experts in: tax liens. FIG appreciates working with IPL because they are the experts in insurance products and can make obtaining a policy seamless for our clients.

What do you find fascinating about PPLI?

The flexibility and liquidity for the policyholder while having the benefit of tax-deferred growth.

What do you wish more people knew about PPLI?

PPLI exists and could be a solution in their portfolio, but the topic of PPLI is still obscure, and many of our high-net-worth clients were unaware of it.

Turning from your work to you personally, what was the career path that led you to your current position?

I have a background in public accounting and am a licensed CPA. After gaining extensive public accounting experience, I transitioned to private accounting at FIG. Somehow, it has been 13 years already. I have enjoyed being at the company since its start, watching it evolve and grow to what it is today, and learning so much along the way.

And a question we ask everyone we interview - what are the top 3 shows you are watching on TV right now?

We don't have traditional cable, so we usually watch old shows on streaming platforms. With the kids, we are watching Younge Sheldon.  With my husband, he loves to watch Jag. By myself, it would be Sweet Magnolias.
